Ayala Foundation, ALI Support Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino
What sets Original Pilipino Music apart from other music genres? And what is it about OPM that makes us go, “That’s so Pinoy!”?
In celebration of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) 2024 happening from July 21 to 28, Ayala Foundation is hosting a talk and performance by folk singer and composer Noel Cabangon on July 25 at Ayala Museum. Titled "Bakit Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika?", the special event also includes a conversation with Tina Arceo-Dumlao and Cecil Ayson on the OPM Himig Collection of the Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL).
LMP 2024 is presented by Ayala Land and Make It Makati, in cooperation with the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit, PhilPop Musicfest Foundation, Kubo, Ayala Malls, and Ayala Foundation through Ayala Museum and FHL. The annual celebration is on its 10th year, since President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 933 in 2014, declaring the last week of July to be the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, premised on the belief that "the promotion and development of the local music industry not only advances Filipino art and culture, but also contributes to the development of the economy, providing employment and revenue stream, and supporting other local industries."
The celebration began on July 21 at the Glorietta Activity Center with a flash mob by Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, and buskers at One Ayala and Ayala Malls Circuit. Performances will continue to be held throughout the week, including those of Zachary Kuribu, Raven Acedera, Jesse James, Gerson Aldave, Arcy Morte, and Klane Zurbano.
Other LMP 2024 events are being hosted by different organizations across the country.
Tickets to "Bakit Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika?" are available at www.ayalamuseum.org. For other event updates, follow #LMP2024 on social media channels.
