PURPOSE & VALUES

The Ayala DNA

“The DNA of Ayala does not change,” said Ayala Corporation President and CEO Bong Consing during the company’s first townhall in January. “It has to do with integrity, empowering leadership, long-term vision, and a commitment to national development. Those are our values, but we want to express them in terms of behaviors: What does it mean for you and me when we come to work every day?”

In a fireside chat, members of the 8th generation of Ayala’s founding family, who are in leadership positions across the Ayala group, reflected on how these values come to life in ways that Imagine It Better, Do What’s Right, Inspire Excellence, and Create Value Together.

Imagine It Better

“It’s about having an innate sense of curiosity. It’s an idea that one is never content because you are always curious about what could be or what more could be. […] It’s the idea that nothing is static. Certainly, success isn’t static and part of that is never feeling too content with how you’re doing and being motivated by the idea that change is constant. And that life is not static and that you’re constantly responding to the changes around you.”

Inspire Excellence

“When I thought about the commonalities of [JAZA, FZA, Meean Dy, Ginbee Go] as leaders, it is that their belief in the potential of both the Philippines and the company is massive such that it creates a want for the bar to continue to drive up. And that is something that I try to take with me on my own journey and inspire my team. [It] is with the thought that our potential is so much greater than you can even imagine, and for that reason, we continue to drive excellence in our standards, in the way we execute, and the people that we serve.”

Do What’s Right

"To a large extent, it has to be aligned with the purpose of what the organization wants to do. So for us, in the exercise of redefining our purpose in ACMobility and clarifying our identity, our purpose statement is that ‘we empower you to move forward’. We want mobility to be an ecosystem that provides and maximizes the value for Filipinos—and that dictates the choices that we want to make.”

JAIME ALFONSO ZOBEL DE AYALA
ACMobility CEO

Create Value Together

“Simply, it’s growing the pie together. [...] Value can change and differ depending on the stakeholder that you’re looking at. For us, it ultimately comes back to building businesses that enable people to thrive. That has to be the core of it and that is a big way that we define value. [...] What makes us truly unique is that we ultimately try to build businesses that are profitable by enabling people to thrive. That is to me what makes us so unique and so different.”
