Ayala Corporation, Bank of the Philippine Islands, and Globe Telecom are part of the inaugural Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list, the global business publication's first-ever ranking of the biggest companies in the region.
A total of 38 Philippine companies made it to the list, which is led by Singaporean commodities trading houses Trafigura Group, Olam Group, and Wilmar International, and state-owned gas producers PTT of Thailand and Pertamina of Indonesia. Companies from seven Southeast Asian economies—Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, and Cambodia—were ranked based on reported total revenues as of end-2023.
Ayala is positioned in 70th place while Globe and BPI are ranked 111th and 112th, respectively.
Fortune Asia Executive Editor Clay Chandler highlighted the significant growth of Southeast Asian nations, which has been outpacing that of Europe and the U.S. The list also "reflects the rise and fall of energy markets, multinational supply chains, and tourism
in some of the world’s most dynamic economies."
Said Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu: “To uplift the nation is our North Star. This recognition inspires us to keep innovating to serve our customers as their needs evolve."
